Mahjong Connect Game

Mahjong Connect

Match pairs of identical tiles, as long as a path can be drawn between them that bends no more than twice.

Four board sizes, a timer running, and shuffles for when nothing is reachable.

How to play Mahjong Connect

Click two tiles with the same face. If they can be connected, the path is drawn and both tiles disappear.

The path travels along empty space and can bend at most twice, which is what makes two tiles with the same face unreachable.

Paths are allowed to run outside the edges of the board, so tiles on opposite sides often connect around the outside.

Clear every tile before the board runs out of moves. The hint button finds a pair, and a shuffle rearranges what is left.

Frequently asked questions

Why will two identical tiles not match?

Because the path between them would need more than two turns. Clearing a tile nearby often opens the line that makes the match legal.

Can the line go around the outside?

Yes. A path can leave the board and come back, which is how tiles on opposite edges connect.

What happens when I run out of shuffles?

If no pair is reachable and there are no shuffles left, the board is over. Hints and shuffles are both limited on purpose.

Which size should I play?

Easy is twelve by eight and takes a few minutes. Expert is much larger and is more about keeping the board open than about spotting pairs.

About Mahjong Connect

Mahjong Connect, sometimes called Shisen Sho, lays the tiles flat instead of stacking them and adds the rule that makes the game: a connecting line with at most two bends.

That rule turns matching into planning. Clearing the middle early keeps paths short, while clearing the edges first tends to leave tiles stranded in the centre.

It is the faster of the two mahjong games here. Mahjong Solitaire is the stacked, untimed one.
