Boggle 4×4 Game

Boggle 4x4

The classic sixteen letter board. Trace words through touching letters and find as many as you can, with no clock running.

Everyone gets the same board each day, and your words are saved if you wander off and come back.

How to play Boggle 4x4

Drag across touching letters to spell a word. Diagonals count, so each letter has up to eight neighbours to carry on from.

Words are three letters or longer, and a letter cannot be used twice in the same word.

Let go to submit. Green means it counted, orange means you already had it, and red means it is not in the dictionary.

Longer words score much more than short ones, so once the obvious three letter words are banked, go hunting for the five and six letter ones.

Frequently asked questions

How is the board made?

From sixteen weighted dice, the same way the physical game works, with a check that the board has enough vowels to be playable.

How does scoring work?

By length. Three and four letter words are worth a little, and the curve rises steeply after that, so one long word can be worth a dozen short ones.

What is the difference from Word Hunt?

Word Hunt is the same board with a ninety second clock and its own daily letters. Boggle 4x4 is untimed, so you can sit with a board until you have squeezed it dry.

Does everyone get the same board?

Yes. The board comes from the date, so you and a friend playing on the same day see the same sixteen letters.

About Boggle 4x4

Four by four is the size most people picture when they think of Boggle, and it holds up because it is big enough to hide long words without being so big that you never finish.

The reliable method is to work out from one letter rather than scanning the whole grid. Pick a corner, try every neighbour, then every neighbour of those, and words come in families.

Plurals and endings are free points. Finding an S or an ING next to a word you already have often doubles your haul for almost no effort.
