How to Play Rummikub Solitaire
Rummikub Solitaire is the tile game without the opponents. You get a fixed set of numbered tiles and one job: arrange every single one into valid melds.
It is a puzzle rather than a race, so you can slide tiles around as long as you like until the whole board is legal.
Play Rummikub SolitaireWhat counts as a meld
- A run: three or more consecutive numbers in the same colour, such as red 4, red 5, red 6.
- A group: three or more of the same number in different colours, such as blue 9, black 9, orange 9.
- Every tile on the board has to belong to one meld or the other when you finish.
How to play
- Drag tiles around the board to build runs and groups.
- Break and rebuild freely. A tile sitting in a run is often the one a group needs.
- Tiles that are not yet part of a valid meld are marked, so you always know what is left to fix.
- The puzzle is solved when every tile belongs to a meld.
Tips
Start with the long runs. A run of five can give up a tile to a group and still be legal, while a run of exactly three cannot be touched.
Count each number before you commit. If a number appears four times across the colours, it can support a group and still leave one tile for a run.
Frequently asked questions
What is a valid meld in Rummikub?
Either a run of three or more consecutive numbers in one colour, or a group of three or more of the same number in different colours.
Do I play against anyone?
No. Rummikub Solitaire is one player, and the goal is to arrange the whole set into valid melds.
Can I rearrange tiles already placed?
Yes, as much as you like. Taking a run apart to feed a group is usually how a stuck board gets solved.
