How to Play 4x4 Killer Sudoku
Killer Sudoku 4x4 keeps the cages and the sums but shrinks the board to four by four. It is the quickest way to get comfortable with cage logic before trying the full size puzzle.
Fill the grid with 1 to 4 so no number repeats in a row, a column or a two by two box, and every cage adds up to the number in its corner.

- Start with the smallest and largest cages. On this grid a two square cage summing to 3 must be 1 and 2, and one summing to 7 must be 3 and 4.
- Remember that a cage never repeats a digit.
- Each row, column and box adds up to 10, which is the small grid version of the rule of 45.
- Place what you are certain of, then let the ordinary Sudoku rules finish the job.
Frequently asked questions
What do the dotted outlines mean?
They mark a cage. The small number in the corner is the total of the squares inside it, and no digit repeats within a cage.
Do I need to be good at maths?
Not at all. The sums are small enough to do in your head, and most of the work is logic about where numbers can go.
